The Portage Chain of Lakes
Nestled in the rolling hills of Livingston County, the Portage Chain of Lakes has been a beloved destination for generations. Connected by natural waterways and navigable channels, the chain offers a rare combination of peaceful lake living just an hour from Detroit and Ann Arbor.
Spanning 9 interconnected lakes and over 1,650 acres of water, the chain includes Portage Lake, Base Line Lake, Whitewood Lake, Tamarack Lake, Zukey Lake, Strawberry Lake, Gallagher Lake, Little Portage Lake, and Loon Lake. Each lake has its own character — from the bustling shores of Portage to the quiet coves of Tamarack.
